Fall Trip to Idyllwild, CA

Itching to get back into a cabin after our wonderful time in McCall, I found a few nights available at a local mountain town here in Southern California — Idyllwild. We had never been before and were really curious what it would be like. There was a full week between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year and we thought this could be a nice way to pass the transitional phase between the two holiday seasons. It really was.

We were very surprised by how beautiful the drive was and how quaint the town and area were. There isn’t a main body of water here like in Arrowhead or Big Bear (other popular mountains towns in our area) and I think it makes this area a little less traveled. But it is worth it completely and the quietness was really cherished by us three.

Our cabin was called the Whiskey Creek Cabin and our host was amazing, we couldn’t recommend them enough if you’re thinking of visiting the area. The plot of land the cabin is on is enough of a reason to stay. We enjoyed walking the leaf covered hills and finding acorns from the towering oak trees scattered on the ground. The view off the balcony into the trees was majestic.

The cabin itself is one of our favorites we’ve been to and Riley requests we go back to it often. It really felt like we were able to unplug here using the fireplace, wood board games, and their turn table for music. Every little touch, from the warm lighting to the creaky cabin stairs and the vintage furnishings, made us feel cozy and very at home.

We visited the town center to see their Christmas lights (and where Riley hugged and fed every deer statue) and played at their playground there too. We also did a morning in the woods hiking nearby and it was breathtaking. Very grateful for our few days of rest and connection to nature here in Idyllwild, such a neat discovery of a town right in our backyard.

Ps. See a reel of videos from this trip here too, if you’d like.
